What to Expect from Your Wisdom Teeth
Wisdom teeth commonly appear during the late teenage years or early twenties. While they don't always cause problems, they can sometimes become impacted or painful, making professional evaluation and treatment important.
Why Wisdom Teeth Can Cause Problems
Wisdom teeth are the last set of permanent teeth to emerge. Since your mouth already contains a full set of adult teeth, there often isn't enough space for these new teeth to grow properly. As a result, wisdom teeth may become impacted, grow at an angle, or remain partially trapped beneath the gums.
Impacted wisdom teeth can lead to discomfort, swelling, gum tenderness, infection, difficulty opening the mouth, and even damage to neighboring teeth if left untreated.
The Wisdom Tooth Removal Procedure
Wisdom tooth removal is a common dental procedure. Before treatment begins, the area surrounding the affected tooth is completely numbed using a local anesthetic to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure.
If the tooth is covered by gum tissue or bone, your dentist will gently remove the necessary tissue to safely access the tooth. Once the tooth has been removed, the area is cleaned and allowed to begin healing.
Recovery & Healing
Healing time varies from patient to patient, but most people begin feeling much better within a few days. Following your dentist's post-operative instructions—including rest, proper oral hygiene, and eating soft foods—can help ensure a smooth recovery.
Removing wisdom teeth doesn't have to be stressful. Our team focuses on making every procedure as comfortable, gentle, and efficient as possible.
